What is Nissan's ProPilot Assist?

Discover Nissan ProPilot Assist

Nissan is synonymous with reliability, and the Japanese automobile manufacturer is known for producing sportily yet reliable vehicles. Nissan cars are produced loaded with a range of advanced safety features designed to help drivers avoid safety issues on the road. Nissan cars in Neptune City are equipped with a number of driver-assist technologies that serve as an extra set of eyes and ears on the road.

Select Nissan cars including the Rogue, Leaf, and Altima come with Nissan’s advanced ProPILOT Assist, which is a suite of driver-assist features. The ProPILOT Assist continuously monitors your driving speed. If the system senses that you are getting extremely close to the vehicle in front of your car, it will automatically reduce your vehicle’s speed to prevent a potential collision.

The Lane Departure Warning system, on the other hand, prevents you from drifting out of your lane. The ProPILOT system additionally includes a stop-and-go function that can decelerate, accelerate, and halt your car according to the traffic conditions.

How does ProPILOT Assist work?

  • Once you enable the ProPILOT Assist system, it will allow you to operate the steering wheel-mounted buttons to select your speed and the distance that you want to maintain between your car and the vehicle ahead of it.
  • When you unintentionally stray from your marked lane, lane line icons on your dashboard will turn green from grey. Additionally, the system will provide minor steering inputs to assist you to get back in your lane.
  • If the system does not detect your hand on the steering wheel, it will issue visual and audible alerts to capture your attention. If you fail to respond to these warnings, it will pulse the brakes. In case these two warnings go unnoticed, the system will automatically engage the brakes to immobilize the vehicle.

The Future of ProPILOT Assist

  • The ProPILOT Assist system utilized in Nissan vehicles remains not a completely autonomous system. It is designed to assist drivers, not replace them. However, Nissan is working on a project that involves a second-generation fully autonomous system. The company plans to adopt NASA technology to develop a complex and trustworthy infrastructure for autonomous vehicles.
